Re: VMWare won't install OS X from installer from Network drive

Hi,

If you are still receiving the error it maybe that the network adapter is enabled which is updating the date to today's date.  When the network adapter is connected it changes the date back to today's date.

Steps:

1. Uncheck "Connected" under "Network Adapter"

2. Open terminal and enter "date 121100002018"

3. Close terminal.

4. Now install the OS.

5. Check "Connected" under "Network Adapter"

Hi Andre,

Getting VsphereVM name

$

0

Is there any better way to get the vsphereVM name. I am following the below approach,

    $vmrdweb = Get-vspherevmname -vmname $Rdwebname -org $NewOrg.Name -vapp $vapp.Name -CIServer $global:DefaultCIServers.Name -CISessionId $global:DefaultCIServers.sessionid -VIserver $global:DefaultVIServer.Name -VIsessionid $global:DefaultVIServer.SessionId

Inside the Get-vspherevmname function , I have written below block of code,

      Set-PowerCLIConfiguration -DisplayDeprecationWarnings $false -Confirm:$false | Out-Null

            $ciconnect = Connect-CIServer -Server $ciserver -Session $cisessionid

           do { $vma = Get-CIVM -Org $org -VApp $vapp -Name $vmname

           Start-Sleep -Seconds $3Seconds

            $vmconf = $vma.ExtensionData

            $vmtype = $vma.ExtensionData.Type

            $vma = Get-CIVM -Org $org -VApp $vapp -Name $vmname

            Start-Sleep -Seconds $5Seconds

            $vmConfUri = $vma.ExtensionData.Href

            $webclient = New-Object system.net.webclient -ErrorAction stop

            $webclient.Headers.Add('x-vcloud-authorization',$vmConf.Client.SessionKey)

            Start-Sleep -Seconds $3Seconds

            $webclient.Headers.Add('accept',$vmType + ";version=$($APIVersion)")

            Start-Sleep -Seconds 15

            [xml]$vmConfXML = $webclient.DownloadString($vmConfUri)

This approach seems to be failing as it takes longer in generating Uri and it fails to extract the vm name. Is there any better approach ?

Re: VMware Workstation failed to start the VMware Authorization Service.

This is an old thread, I know.

FWIW and should other users run into the same problems some time in future, I'd still like to add my comments.

Up front there is an important thing to note.

I always use the two small batch files on my desktop:  1st one launches VMware Workstation, the 2nd one exits/closes VMware Workstation,

There is also a direct shortcut to vmware.exe  on my desktop (I should and will remove that)

Today I coincidentally tried to launch VMware Workstation using the direct shortcut (to vmware.exe) and indeed also got this error.

("VMware Workstation failed to start the VMware Authorization Service. You can try manually starting the VMware Authorization Service.

If this problem persists, contact VMware support.")

So I searched for a solution here and it seems that I should repair/re-install the application...

I then noticed I used the wrong button to launch VMware and launched it using the batch file. That went fine!

One might consider using batch files.

Batch files are located with the VMware Workstation folder and a shortcut to desktop

start_vmware.bat

sc config VMUSBArbService start= demand

net start VMUSBArbService

sc config VMAuthdService start= demand

net start VMAuthdService

sc config VMwareHostd start= demand

net start VMwareHostd

sc config VMnetDHCP start= demand

net start VMnetDHCP

sc config "VMware NAT Service" start= demand

net start "VMware NAT Service"

netsh interface set interface "VMware Network Adapter VMnet1" ENABLED

netsh interface set interface "VMware Network Adapter VMnet8" ENABLED

d:

cd VMware

start vmware.exe

(note: d: and cd VMware : in my case VMware Workstation is installed in d:\vmware, so adjust this to your own situation)

stop_vmware.bat

taskkill /F /IM "vmware-tray.exe"

net stop VMwareHostd

sc config VMwareHostd start= disabled

net stop VMUSBArbService

sc config VMUSBArbService start= disabled

net stop VMAuthdService

sc config VMAuthdService start= disabled

net stop VMnetDHCP

sc config VMnetDHCP start= disabled

net stop "VMware NAT Service"

sc config "VMware NAT Service" start= disabled

netsh interface set interface "VMware Network Adapter VMnet1" DISABLED

netsh interface set interface "VMware Network Adapter VMnet8" DISABLED

(note: the stop_vmware.bat is to stop all vmware processes)

please also see  disable auto-start VM workstation services/processes

Set the batch file to run as administrator.

This has been working fine for years.

Again, just FWIW

Re: Esxi host does not respond to ping

Scenario1: Change the DNS suffix and add another domain name that is not a public registered domain name. Using words like .internal or .local . Also, you must add this suffix name to your client to resolve the ESXi host's name (easy way)

Scenario2: Install a local DNS server that is responding to the home.com in your local network (better way)

Scenario3: Add the FQDN of your ESXi host and its IP address to the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts in your client system (dummy way)

What is the exact VM settings? CPU, Memory ... Does it happen for the new VMs or existing ones?

Can you check if you start a VM without a vDisk and then add a VMDK to it in power-on mode, PSOD of ESXi will happen again or not?!

Re: How best to upgrade my storage on ESXi 6.5

In option1, If you mean to add the 4TB, I think it's the best way that has fewer risks of data loss. Only you should know the VM does not need to know where is its datastore! you must move it from the old 1TB datastore to the new 4TB and start it again. Just with respect to the Guest OS, if the volume of VM is running low, you need to increase VMDK size and then extend it in the guest OS.

Option 3 is the second-best way but it's better to use the SSD disk as the host cache and repository of VM swap files.

Option 2 is the new installation method and depends on your IT infrastructure situation (I really prefer to NOT choose it)

Option 4 needs to more moving operations, so there are more risks of losing data!

Is your DNS infrastructure (AD-Integrated) working correctly? Can you resolve the domain name from another system (for example your client system) without any problem? regardless of the vCenter server identity source settings, please check the domain service working correctly ...

At last check the domain controller's firewall setting! (TCP port 389 must be reachable)

By investigation of exactly log files, you have more details about everything that happened into your ESXi host.

Re: How best to upgrade my storage on ESXi 6.5

For the best long term performance I would install ESXi on the 120GB SSD. So remove the 1TB disk from your server, install the SSD and then install ESXi on that disk. Then add the 1TB and the 4 TB disks to the server. You should be able to see the VMDK files from your VM on the 1TB disk. Copy those files to the 4TB disk and import the VM from that location. As long as you don't touch that 1TB disk you could always go back to the original situation.
